Where we’re at

Two things were very clear listening to Mark Thompson and Lucy Adams yesterday. One is that they are going to modify the proposals that have been put forward. And in shaping those modifications they’re absolutely focused on the 1% cap as the issue they need to address. The second is that there is very little room for maneuvre. Their view was that any modifications would have to be paid for with pain elsewhere. There is no easy extra money. If the BBC pays in any more to the scheme then we would be looking at either cutting services or jobs. That is for the birds. So either we are all going to pay in more, or the benefits will be diluted in some other way, or both.
